To get into the winter mood to prepare for my impending return to Belgium I did some snowboarding sandboarding. The exact same boards are used as when snowboarding, but instead of going down a snowy mountain you go down a dune. Some small differences compared to snowboarding are the need to wax the board every time before going down to reduce the friction between the sand and the board because otherwise it is pretty much impossible to get going, and the fact that you can go straight down without needing to make turns because the dunes are sufficiently low to not pick up too much speed.
Similar to my snowboarding style one of my signature sandboarding moves turned out to be the “don’t-lose-your-balance-ah-too-late” move, and by the end of the day I had executed several flawless faceplants and sand was itching me literally everywhere. A fun day out!
